On November 1, 2005, the assets
of Art’s Toy were sold to Artistic Toy Manufacturing, Inc. Art’s Toy
was founded by Art Ravitz in 1976 and operated as Art’s Toy Manufacturing
Company, Inc. through October 31, 2005.
Art’s Toy was formed out of the ambers of R&R Toy Manufacturing Company.
S&R Toy Manufacturing was owned and operated by Sam and Ruth Ravitz for 30
years. S&R Toy manufactured carnival toys in the United States with
factories in New York, NY and Pen Argyl, PA. S&R had over 200 employees and
supplied toys primarily to the carnival industry. R&R Toy encountered financial
difficulties attributed to the loss of some major customers and decided to close
its doors.
Sam and Ruth’s son Artie saw the opportunity of emerging markets in Korea and
China, and pursued customers that needed promotional stuffed animals in large
orders. Through the 1980’s, Art’s Toy continued to manufacture toys in
the few remaining factories in New York City; however, by the middle of the 1990s,
all of the toys manufactured were imported from Korea or China.
At about the same time Art’s Toy began importing 99% of its promotional toys,
it also explored opportunities in the developing promotional products industry
by joining Advertising Specialty Institute (ASI), one the premier promotional
products trade organizations.
Artistic Toy currently imports 99% of its promotional stuffed animals from China
and is a member of almost all the major promotional product trade organizations.
